Bluetooth is a proprietary technology developed in 1994 by Ericsson as a potential alternative to wireless data cables. The word Bluetooth is an anglicized version of a Scandinavian nickname of the tenth-century king Harald the first of Denmark who united dissonant Danish tribes into a single kingdom. Bluetooth received this name because it does the same with electronic devices communications protocols, uniting them into one universal standard.Additional Facts About Bluetooth Technology
Bluetooth, though it seems a bit magical, is actually a shortwave radio frequency. Bluetooth uses a radio technology called frequency-hopping spread spectrum, which chops up the data being sent and transmits chunks of it on up to 79 bands. It is very good at rapidly sending information between two devices across a short distance.A master Bluetooth device can communicate with up to seven other devices at a time. With Bluetooth, the devices can switch roles on command. The slave device can become the master, and vice versa, allowing for a quick flow of information.
